Volunteers
People with end-of-life illnesses require comfort and support to fully enjoy the time they have left. At Health First Hospice, we do everything we can to make sure that our patients have their physical and emotional needs taken care of while they are here. This includes receiving visits from volunteers in the community who have generously donated their time to assist people who need companionship.
We welcome volunteers who are interested in giving their time and emotional energy to help people with terminal illnesses. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways. Sometimes the help is in performing small tasks for family members or making sure that hospice patients get to doctor’s appointments. In other cases, a church hospice volunteer might offer to lead patients and their families in prayer or provide other spiritual support.
One of the most valuable services that a hospice volunteer can provide is simply spending time with patients. Dealing with boredom and loneliness is difficult for hospice patients – even the most dedicated family members can’t be there around the clock. Having a volunteer come to their bedside to engage in conversation, read books or just provide a happy face can do wonders for a patient’s emotional state.
We have specialized volunteer opportunities available, such as becoming a VA hospice volunteer to provide comfort for people who have served our country with honor. We have volunteer needs in many different areas that will suite your interests and unique skills. Contact us today to learn more about volunteering and making a difference in our community.
